The Admission Clerk will report directly to the Patient Administration Manager. The main responsibility will be admitting patients into the hospital while ensuring a professional and efficient service is delivered to both internal and external clients.
Responsibilities
The Admission Clerk will be expected to:
- Admit all patients following the hospital’s admission protocols.
- Perform clinical coding using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) and ICD (International Classification of Diseases) standards.
- Ensure accurate capturing of admission and pre-admission data in the hospital’s systems.
- Handle daily receipting in line with hospital policy.
- Provide guidance and information to patients on arrival.
- Answer and direct phone calls appropriately.
- File patient records and retrieve them as needed while ensuring confidentiality.
- Record and manage payments received from patients.
- Achieve daily and monthly performance targets set by management.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this position, applicants must have:
- A Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
- At least two years of work experience in a similar administrative or hospital-based role.
- Computer literacy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work shifts, including nights.
Having a qualification at NQF Level 4 in Office Administration, or a related field, as well as knowledge of hospital procedures and medical terminology, will be an added advantage.
