As an Assistant Programme Editor, you will play a vital role in shaping editorial content, ensuring high-quality programming, and working closely with key stakeholders to deliver an engaging viewer experience. Key Responsibilities:

Programme Performance

  • Plan and manage the programme rundown, ensuring smooth operations and timely delivery of content.
  • Collaborate with the Programme Editor to make real-time editorial decisions that enhance the show’s appeal.
  • Drive an agenda that is engaging, informative, and stimulating for the audience.
  • Secure top-tier guests for interviews, ensuring a dynamic and informative show.
  • Ensure all on-air content is reviewed for quality before release, ensuring error-free broadcasting.
  • Maintain high editorial standards and ensure the show meets audience expectations.

Creative Content Development

  • Differentiate programming through creative news treatments, keeping the content fresh and innovative.
  • Work with the editorial team to introduce new formats, fresh content, and unique approaches to presenting news.
  • Monitor local and global news trends to ensure that content remains relevant and engaging to viewers.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, motivate, and mentor the editorial team, fostering a culture of creativity and development.
  • Align staffing needs with editorial demands to ensure each show has the right team in place.
  • Guide the team towards achieving editorial goals while adhering to company policies.
  • Lead pre- and post-production meetings to review the show’s content, structure, and performance.

Editorial Oversight & Communication

  • Ensure all content is reviewed for quality and accuracy before being aired.
  • Implement any changes to the rundown as directed by the Programme Editor, maintaining flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain an understanding of both local and global affairs to bring timely, relevant content to the programme.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards related to television broadcasts.
  • Foster effective communication between the editorial and production teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Address any issues or challenges that arise during production, ensuring quick resolution for uninterrupted show delivery.

Assistant Programme Editor Job Requirements:

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Television and/or Media Studies is required for this position.

Experience

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in television production, with hands-on experience in managing editorial content and overseeing production teams.
  • Prior experience in a leadership role is highly desirable, particularly in editorial or production teams.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and a keen editorial eye for accuracy and consistency.
  • Ability to make editorial decisions quickly and effectively while maintaining high standards.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building abilities, with the capacity to motivate and guide a diverse team.
  • Strong communication skills, both in terms of conveying ideas clearly and collaborating effectively with other departments.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, particularly when dealing with guests, stakeholders, and production teams.

Technology Proficiency

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required for administrative tasks and communication.
  • Familiarity with television production tools, software, and content management systems is an advantage.

Other Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license is required as the role may involve travel to different locations or oversight of on-location shoots.
