Key Responsibilities

As an Electrical General Assistant, you will work under general supervision and perform various maintenance and repair tasks, ensuring all electrical systems, equipment, and infrastructure are in optimal working condition. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Actioning Maintenance Call-outs: Respond to all maintenance-related call-outs concerning electrical issues.
  • Inspect and Test Equipment: Determine the best methods for locating, installing, testing, and repairing electrical systems and equipment.
  • In-house Repairs: Carry out in-house electrical repairs within established targets.
  • Communication with Clients: Communicate damages, repairs, and timelines to clients, as well as the Supervisor: Electrical.
  • Coordinating Access and Permits: Assist with obtaining necessary permits, such as hot works permits, shut-off permits, etc., in coordination with building users, health and safety departments, and traffic control.
  • Monitor Electrical Infrastructure: Ensure the electrical infrastructure is regularly repaired and maintained.
  • Database Management: Help the Supervisor or Maintenance Manager compile and maintain a comprehensive database of electrical repairs.
  • Material and Inventory Control: Monitor and maintain on-site spares, materials, and electrical inventory.
  • Assisting Artisans: Provide assistance to electricians and other team members when required.

Other duties might include cleaning and maintaining equipment, performing quality checks, and assisting with any electrical-related matters within the institution.

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Grade 10 (NQF 2)
  • Experience: At least 1 year of job-related experience
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with University rules, regulations, and policies is beneficial.
