Duties and Responsibilities
1. Handling and Grooming Horses
The internship program offers an immersive experience with horses, allowing interns to learn and apply essential skills in horse care. You will be responsible for handling horses and ponies on the academy premises. This includes daily tasks such as grooming, washing, plaiting, and show turn-out preparation. You will ensure that horses are well-maintained and that their overall wellbeing is constantly monitored. Any injuries or issues with the horses will need to be reported to the Academy Manager immediately.
2. Tack and Equipment Maintenance
As an intern, you will be responsible for maintaining all equestrian equipment, including saddles, bridles, and other tack. This responsibility ensures that all equipment is in good working order and ready for use by the academy’s riders. Cleaning and oiling saddles, brushes, and lunging equipment will be part of your daily routine.
3. Stable Yard and Surrounds

Qualifications and Requirements
- Qualification:
- A qualification in Equine Science or related fields is preferred.
- Candidates currently pursuing an Equine Science qualification or working towards EQASA certification will also be considered.
- Experience:
- 2-3 years of practical experience in an equine-related setting is preferred for success in this role.
- Language Skills:
- Proficiency in either English or Afrikaans is required for communication with the team and academy clients.
- Additional Skills:
- A valid driver’s license is beneficial for transportation to and from the academy.
