JICS Job Vacancies 2025

The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) is inviting applications for a range of vacancies across South Africa. These positions are critical in strengthening oversight in correctional centres and protecting the rights of inmates.

Closing Date

The closing date is 10 October 2025 at:

  • 16:00 for hand-delivered submissions
  • 20:00 for online submissions

Application Requirements

  • Submit a new Z83 form (download at gov.za) and a comprehensive CV as one PDF file.
  • File must be saved using the applicant’s surname and initials.
  • JPEG or image applications will not be accepted.
  • For ICCV posts, include a community organisation nomination letter (not older than six months).
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be asked for certified copies of qualifications.

1. Law Clerk – Office of the Inspecting Judge

  • Ref No: JI 152/2025
  • Location: Cape Town
  • Contract: 36 months
  • Salary: R468 459 per annum (Level 09), plus 37% in lieu of benefits
  • Requirements: Senior Certificate, LLB degree (or final year), research ability, interest in human rights and criminal law.
  • Duties: Legal research, drafting, report writing, and assisting the Inspecting Judge during inspections.

2. Visitors Committee Coordinating Officer – VCCO

  • Ref No: JI 153/2025
  • Location: Western Cape (Cape Town)
  • Salary: R325 101 per annum (Level 07)
  • Requirements: Senior Certificate plus Diploma/Degree in Public Administration, Office Management, or related field. At least 5 years in the Justice Cluster or 2 years in a supervisory role. Valid driver’s licence required.
  • Duties: Supervising Independent Correctional Centre Visitors (ICCVs), handling complaints, coordinating meetings, reporting, and performance management.

3. Independent Correctional Centre Visitors (ICCV)

  • Ref Nos: 154/2025 – 203/2025
  • Contract: 36 months (from March/April 2026)
  • Salary: R85 620 per annum (Level 05, part-time), plus 37% in lieu of benefits
  • Requirements: Community nomination letter (within six months), CV, and Z83 form.
  • Duties: Visiting centres, monitoring detention conditions, complaints management, and reporting.
