Purpose of the HR Learnership Programme

The purpose of the Learner: HR Administration role is to give participants an opportunity to gain both theoretical knowledge and practical work experience in the HR field. This 12-month Learnership programme offers an engaging and hands-on approach to learning, combining classroom-based training with real-world, practical exposure within the HR environment.

Participants will work alongside experienced professionals to improve their skills and workplace performance. The programme is designed for Grade 12-qualified individuals who are eager to develop fundamental professional skills in business operations, communication, numeracy, and computer literacy.

Theoretical and Practical Training

The 12-month Learnership programme has two key components: theoretical learning and practical onsite experience.

Theoretical Learning:
The theoretical part of the Learnership covers essential business-related subjects such as entrepreneurship, business operations, customer service, accounting, communication skills, maths literacy, and computer skills. These modules are designed to provide foundational knowledge that will assist learners in their professional careers.

Practical Experience:
During the practical component of the programme, learners will provide administrative support to the HR department. This hands-on exposure will prepare them for the workplace by allowing them to develop workplace skills and contribute to the effectiveness of the department. Learners will support HR managers and staff by assisting in various administrative tasks, gaining real-world insight into the workings of HR operations.

Key Responsibilities

As a Learner in the HR Administration role, participants will be involved in a variety of tasks designed to build their HR knowledge and practical experience. Some of the core responsibilities include:

  • HR Process Support: Learners will be involved in the implementation and execution of HR solutions across the assigned portfolio, ensuring high levels of customer service and compliance with set standards and policies.
  • Employee Onboarding: Assisting with recruitment and onboarding processes to ensure a seamless experience for new employees joining the company.
  • Data and Analytics: Learners will provide support in the analysis and reporting of HR data, ensuring accurate and reliable information is available for decision-making processes.
  • Talent Management: Supporting the implementation of talent management processes, ensuring that these processes run efficiently and are completed within set timelines.
  • Compensation and Benefits: Learners will assist in managing compensation and benefits, including salary benchmarking and ensuring internal equity and external competitiveness.
  • Employee Relations Support: Learners will help in providing first-line labor relations support, ensuring that all HR processes align with procedural fairness and statutory requirements.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this Learnership programme will meet the following criteria:

  • Formal Education:
    • Matric/Grade 12 is required for this position.
    • A diploma or bachelor’s degree in HR or a related field is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience:
    • No prior work experience is required; however, a keen interest in HR and people management will be beneficial.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Analytical Skills: Ability to work with data and statistics to interpret HR metrics and trends.
    • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to assist in the presentation of HR reports and support departmental functions.
    • Collaboration: Willingness to work as part of a team, assisting colleagues in achieving HR objectives.
    • Customer Focus: Ability to anticipate and meet the needs of internal customers and employees.
    • Attention to Detail: Ensuring accurate documentation and report generation.
