The South African National Parks (SANParks) is excited to announce the launch of its external SANParks bursary programme for the 2026 academic year. This initiative is aimed at young South Africans who are entering their first year of undergraduate studies and are passionate about contributing to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
With an emphasis on academic excellence, inclusivity, and community development, SANParks is offering a comprehensive bursary to students from neighbouring communities of national parks.
What the SANParks Bursary Offers

Bursary Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the SANParks Bursary Programme, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- South African Citizenship: Applicants must be South African citizens.
- Residency: Preference will be given to students who reside in communities adjacent to or neighbouring national parks, as defined in the SANParks management plans.
- Age Requirement: Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35 at the time of application.
- Academic Requirements:
- Students must be entering their first year of undergraduate studies in 2026.
- For those already enrolled in higher education, a 100% pass rate in previous studies is required.
- Applicants must have been accepted into an accredited public higher education institution in South Africa, including universities, TVET colleges, and universities of technology.
- Social Grant Status: If the applicant is receiving a social grant, they must submit an affidavit confirming that their household income falls below the required threshold.

How to Apply
If you meet the eligibility criteria and wish to apply for the SANParks External Bursary Programme, you must submit your application by the 18th of August 2025.

- Motivation Letter: A letter explaining why you are applying for the bursary and detailing your chosen field of study.
- Comprehensive Updated CV: A recent CV showcasing your academic background, skills, and achievements.
- Certified Copy of Identity Document: Proof of your South African citizenship.
- Certified Latest Academic Record: Your most recent academic transcript or report card.
- Acceptance Letter: Proof of acceptance into an accredited South African public higher education institution (university, TVET college, or university of technology).
- Proof of Residential Address: A document confirming your residential address.
