Key Responsibilities

As a Semi-Skilled Artisan at RCL Foods, you will be responsible for carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the Milling Operating Unit. Some of the primary duties include:

1. Maintenance and Repairs:
   You will be required to perform regular preventative and corrective maintenance tasks to ensure the equipment and machinery are operating optimally. Additionally, you will attend to breakdowns, carry out fault-finding procedures, and execute emergency repairs as needed.
2. Standby and Shift Work:
   The role requires flexibility, including performing standby duties, working shifts, and being on-call during emergencies. This is essential to maintain production continuity, especially during critical breakdowns.
3. Documentation:
   Accurate documentation is key in this role. You will need to complete job cards, update vehicle records, and maintain clear communication with the team regarding ongoing tasks.
4. Spare Parts Management:
   As part of your duties, you will be responsible for ordering spare parts (consumables), interpreting spare parts and workshop manuals, and ensuring that the correct materials are on hand for maintenance activities.
5. Health and Safety:
   Ensuring a safe and healthy working environment is a top priority. You will participate in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities, which includes performing regular housekeeping duties to keep the workplace neat and safe.
6. Adhoc Operational Duties:
   On top of your regular duties, you will also assist with adhoc operationally relevant tasks as assigned, ensuring that all aspects of the Milling Operating Unit are functioning optimally.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Semi-Skilled Artisan position at RCL Foods, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Educational Qualification:
  • N4 Mechanical/Electrical (Minimum).
  • N5 and above would be an advantage.
  • Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent.
• Technical Qualifications:
  • A trade-tested qualification is highly desirable (Electrician, Millwright, Fitter, Fitter and Turner, or Boilermaker).
• Work Experience:
  • Previous experience in a production environment is essential, with a minimum of 3 months’ experience.
  • Practical experience with basic hand tools is also required.
• Skills:
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication skills.
