- Learning Outcomes in Finance:
- Gain practical experience and insight into the working of a Municipal Budget and Treasury Office.
- Learn to implement MFMA, GRAP Standards, policies, and procedures.
- Become proficient in the management of municipal finances within the scope of the local government framework.
- Training Areas:
- Finance Department: This is where you’ll learn the ins and outs of local government budgeting, financial reporting, and resource management.
- Internal Audit: Gain knowledge on the critical role of auditing in ensuring financial transparency and accountability.
- Risk Management: Understand the identification, assessment, and management of financial risks that could impact municipal finances.
- Skill Development:
- The internship will help develop competencies that align with the National Treasury Finance Intern Skills Development Programme.
- Equip yourself with the skills required for a Municipal Finance Management career, including both technical and interpersonal skills like effective communication and proficiency in computer literacy.

- Successful completion of the internship will provide you with a qualification in Municipal Finance Management in line with National Treasury Regulations.

Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme, you must meet the following qualifications and conditions:
- Educational Requirements:
- A completed three-year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma (NQF Level 7) in Accounting, Business, or Finance.
- Candidates with specialisation in Internal Audit or Risk Management will have an added advantage.
- Additional Requirements:
- Applicants must have completed their matriculation in the Knysna municipal area.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Competency in computer literacy.
- Internship Agreement:
- Upon selection, successful candidates will be required to sign an Internship Agreement in addition to the employment contract. This agreement ensures full participation in the training and workplace programs associated with the MFMI Programme.
- Interns will also be subject to the Municipal Disciplinary Code and an annual increase determined by the Bargaining Council.
- Preference:
- The programme encourages diversity and will prioritize female applicants in accordance with Employment Equity and Gender Equality policies.
