Duties and Responsibilities

- Engaging in general tasks around the workplace.
Requirements for Application
To be eligible for the AFGRI Apprenticeship Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Communication Skills – Ability to interact effectively with colleagues and customers.
- Administrative Skills – Proficient in handling basic paperwork and systems.
- Computer Literacy – Comfortable using basic software applications.
- N2 Subjects: These subjects include:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Diesel Trade Theory
- Additionally, one of the following:
- Industrial Electronics
- Engineering / Technical Drawing
- Motor Trade Theory
- Matric Certificate: If you don’t have the N2 qualification, a Matric Certificate with the following subjects may be considered:
- Mathematics (at least 40%)
- Physical Science (at least 40%)

For those who do not meet all the qualifications, AFGRI offers Further Education and Training in the form of N2 subjects as part of the apprenticeship program.
Training and Development
The apprenticeship is designed to equip individuals with the essential skills and technical knowledge required in the industry. The training process includes:
- Practical Training at designated institutes to develop hands-on experience.
- Distance Learning for N2 subjects (if required).
- Product Training at specialized John Deere facilities.
- Internal Training by AFGRI specialists.
Training costs are covered by AFGRI as long as apprentices successfully pass. If they fail, they must cover the costs of retaking the courses.
Work-Back Agreement and Contract Details
The apprenticeship is governed by a 3-year contract with AFGRI. During the program:
- Work-Back Agreement: Apprentices are expected to work back the time it took them to qualify. If the apprenticeship is terminated early, they may incur costs based on the time left in the program.
- Contract Duration: The contract cannot be extended for more than 4 years. If the apprentice has not qualified within this period, the contract expires.
