eMedia Investments is seeking an Engineering Intern to join their team at e.tv in Johannesburg. This internship provides a unique opportunity for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in the production environment.

The successful candidate will support the engineering team by troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing broadcast equipment, while ensuring that systems are operating efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting & Repairs
    • Test the functionality of video, audio, and control cables, performing repairs where necessary.
    • Terminate cables to the highest standards using the correct connectors.
    • Conduct bench testing of broadcast equipment to ensure functionality.
    • Perform repairs to broadcast equipment at board level, including soldering.
    • Check network status and address any traffic issues.
  • Technical Support
    • Respond to technical issues via phone or email, offering support to both field and workshop operations.
    • Assist with the servicing of ENG kits and perform broadcast system checks as per the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure).
  • Installation & Maintenance
    • Decommission and install equipment in server racks and technical furniture.
    • Schedule, perform, and report maintenance on systems according to SOP.
  • Escalation
    • Escalate unresolved issues to senior engineers and liaise with suppliers and OEMs locally and internationally.
  • Reporting & Documentation
    • Write shift reports outlining incidents and resolutions.
    • Provide fault reports after diagnostics and ensure updates are shared with suppliers and OEMs.
    • Update system drawings and workflows based on changes.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Essential Qualifications:
    • National Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4)
    • Diploma in Engineering/Computer Systems (NQF Level 6)
  • Competencies:
    • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
    • Attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to manage tasks and follow up on delegated assignments
    • A commitment to continuous learning and improvement
  • Additional Requirements:
    • South African citizen
    • Must be under the age of 35
    • Candidates who have previously participated in a SETA-funded internship are not eligible
