Rock Engineering Internship Programme

This internship, under reference VAR081/25GS, provides a developmental learning programme within a 42-month period. The position allows successful candidates to gain hands-on experience and learn from seasoned professionals in the field of mining engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

The intern will be expected to perform various tasks, including:

  • Experiential Learning: Gaining comprehensive insights into the mining environment through hands-on experience.
  • Presentations: Presenting key learnings to the Operational Management Team after each phase of the programme.
  • Project Identification: Identifying and presenting a project towards the completion of the programme during the second year.
  • Training & Development: Attending formal courses, seminars, and actively participating in all development opportunities.
  • Role Performance: Acting in the capacity of other roles when required, delivering expected outcomes and suggesting improvements.
  • Value-Add Projects: Identifying opportunities for improvement or value addition through research and benchmarking with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentorship: Identifying and engaging with a technical coach and mentor to guide professional growth.

Requirements for Internal Applicants:

Seriti offers recognition of prior learning for candidates with experience in mining production, geology, or mine planning. To qualify for this role, internal applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Experience in mining production, geology, or mine planning.
  • Strata Control Certificate in Coal (if not, in progress).
  • Proven completion of a relevant project related to the field of study.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge in the field of study.
  • Sound references from previous employers or learning institutions.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness.
  • Proficiency in business writing, planning, and organisation.
  • Competent in MS Office and a self-starter with a strong desire to learn.

Requirements for External Applicants:

External applicants should possess one of the following qualifications:

  • BSc Engineering (Mining), BSc Geology (Hons), or BEng Tech (Hons).
  • Proven completion of a relevant project related to their field of study.
  • Sound theoretical knowledge in the field.
  • Strong references from previous employers or educational institutions.
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness.
  • Proficiency in business writing, planning, and organisation.

Advantageous Skills:

Candidates who have prior temporary working experience in the field, along with a basic understanding of Seriti’s business principles and values, will have an advantage. Familiarity with Seriti’s operational codes, procedures, and guidelines is also a plus.
