DCoG & NDMC Bursary Programme

The Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoG), in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC), has announced a Bursary Programme for students intending to pursue Undergraduate, Post-Graduate, and Master’s programmes in Disaster Management, Fire Technology, or Fire Engineering.

This funding initiative is aimed at supporting South African students who are dedicated to advancing their education in these critical fields.

Bursary Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate & Post-Graduate Diploma/Advanced Diploma Students

To be eligible for this bursary, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • South African citizenship.
  • Acceptance or registration for an Undergraduate/Post-Graduate Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Disaster Management, Fire Technology, or Fire Engineering at a recognised Public Higher Institution in South Africa.
  • The applicant must have:
    • A certified copy of a valid South African Identity Document.
    • The most recent academic results with a minimum average of 60%.
    • A certified copy of the Matric Certificate.
    • Proof of acceptance/registration for the full programme.

Master’s Students

Applicants for the Master’s bursary must satisfy the following criteria:

  • South African citizenship.
  • Acceptance or registration for a Master’s programme in Disaster Management, Fire Technology, or Fire Engineering at a recognised Public Higher Institution in South Africa.
  • The applicant must have:
    • A certified copy of a valid South African Identity Document.
    • A certified copy of the Matric Certificate.
    • A brief Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages).
    • Most recent academic transcript with a minimum average of 65%.
    • Proof of acceptance/registration for the full programme.
    • A Master’s Research Proposal aligned with one of the 16 Priority Thematic Areas outlined by NDMC (for more details, refer to the official research agenda).

Bursary Benefits and Allowances

The NDMC bursary programme covers the following expenses:

  • 100% tuition fees, including registration costs.
  • A research allowance for Master’s students, capped at R11 000.
