About TETA

The Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA) is one of South Africa’s 21 SETAs (Sector Education and Training Authorities), established under the Skills Development Act No. 97 of 1998.

TETA’s primary role is to develop and facilitate skills development in the transport sector, which includes subsectors such as rail, maritime, aviation, road freight, road passenger transport, taxi operations, forwarding & clearing, and freight handling.

TETA works to implement the National Skills Development Plan (NSDP), ensuring that South Africa has a competitive, capable, and competent workforce for the transport industry. Its mandate includes:

  • Developing a Sector Skills Plan (SSP);
  • Facilitating, registering, and implementing learnerships, skills programmes, and strategic initiatives
  • Approving workplace skills plans (WSPs);
  • Disbursing grants to stakeholders for skills development;
  • Conducting quality assurance of education and training providers in its sector.

TETA reports to the Minister of Higher Education and Training and is financially overseen by National Treasury.

Minimum Requirements

1. Qualifications

  • Matric qualification (compulsory).
  • A secretariat/administration qualification will be an added advantage.

2. Experience

  • At least 1 year of experience working as a receptionist or switchboard operator.

3. Knowledge and Understanding

  • Customer service best practices.
  • Switchboard operations.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

4. Skills

  • Professional telephone etiquette.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (written and verbal).
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS PowerPoint.

Key Performance Areas

1. Provide Support to Stakeholders

  • Welcome and assist visitors in a professional manner.
  • Provide required information to walk-in clients.
  • Direct clients to the correct departments efficiently.

2. Operating the Switchboard

  • Answer incoming calls promptly and professionally.
  • Transfer calls to relevant departments.
  • Take accurate messages and forward them to the correct personnel.

3. Manage Reception Area

  • Accept documents on behalf of the Chamber/Units.
  • Notify relevant departments to collect their documents.
  • Ensure the reception area is always attended.
  • Provide administrative support for scheduled meetings.
