This is an apprenticeship position (Task Grade L5) within the Mechanical Maintenance Department of the Peaking Business Unit. As a learner artisan, you will receive a combination of theoretical training in a structured environment and practical on-the-job training alongside experienced artisans.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

To qualify for this learnership, applicants need to meet one of the following routes:

  • A National N6 Certificate with trade subjects in Mechanical.
  • A National N4 or N5 Certificate with trade subjects.
  • Grade 12 (Matric) with at least 50% in Mathematics, 50% in Physical Science, and 40% in English.
  • N3 qualification with 50% in Mathematics, 50% in Science, and 40% in English.
  • NCV Level 4 qualification with 50% in Mathematics, 50% in Science, and 40% in English.

These academic requirements ensure that candidates have the right foundation to handle both the theory and practical aspects of mechanical work.

Duties and Responsibilities

During the course of the learnership, you will:

  • Assist with the maintenance, repair, and servicing of mechanical equipment such as pumps, turbines, motors, and hydraulic systems.
  • Learn to identify, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical faults.
  • Follow mechanical maintenance schedules and participate in inspections.
  • Use tools, measuring instruments, and safety procedures in real-world conditions.
  • Be guided and mentored by senior artisans to grow your technical skills.
  • Attend structured classroom training to build your theoretical knowledge.
