EPWP Employment Opportunities

South African National Parks (SANParks) has opened applications for EPWP Employment Opportunities for the 2025 / 2026 period. The available positions are for Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitors within the Biodiversity Social Projects Environmental Monitor Programme based at Agulhas National Park.

Contracts will run until the end of March 2026, and successful candidates will report directly to the Section Ranger or Ranger Sergeant.

EPWP Employment Opportunities Overview

The programme aims to enhance conservation efforts, support biodiversity management, and promote environmental awareness within the park. Candidates will participate in on-site monitoring, fieldwork, and community-based activities while supporting conservation teams.

Key Responsibilities

Applicants appointed to the programme will be expected to:

  • Manage in-field administration, including timesheets, H&S checklists, logbooks, and reports.
  • Assist with monitoring and recording resource management data.
  • Handle and resolve conflict when it arises and provide motivation and support to contractors.
  • Assist with fire management and safety procedures.
  • Carry out fence integrity monitoring, perform basic maintenance, and clear areas around the camp.
  • Participate in ecological monitoring, restoration activities, and invasive alien species clearing.
  • Support waste management reporting and contribute to conservation programmes.
  • Assist with environmental and community awareness projects.
  • Support conservation activities when required.
  • Perform ad-hoc duties as needed.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
  • Interest in working within a nature conservation environment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and after hours.
  • Good physical health and ability to perform field duties.
  • Ability to undergo and pass a medical fitness examination by a medical practitioner.
  • Basic understanding of Health and Safety principles.
  • No criminal record (SAPS verification will be conducted).
  • Preference will be given to candidates aged 18 to 35 years.

Advantageous Skills

Candidates with the following will receive added consideration:

  • Computer literacy.
  • Basic firefighting training.
