Key Responsibilities
Interns will be involved in several critical aspects of agricultural research, particularly in range and forage sciences. Key duties include:
- Assist in Preparation of Material and Equipment for Fieldwork
You will support the team in preparing necessary materials and equipment to ensure smooth field operations. - Assist in Data Collection and Labelling
Interns will assist in collecting data and labeling it correctly, both in the field and during analysis. - Data Capture, Storage, and Management
You will be tasked with supporting data capture and ensuring proper data storage and management systems during and after fieldwork. - Research Equipment Management
You will help manage and ensure the proper usage of research equipment, critical for accurate results in scientific studies. - Report Compilation
Interns will assist in compiling monthly and quarterly reports for both internal and external stakeholders involved in projects. - General Project Management Support
You will assist in coordinating various aspects of research projects and ensuring they stay on track. - Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures
Ensuring that all activities comply with organizational health and safety policies, and research standards is a key part of the role. - Contribute to Research Projects
As an intern, you will play an active role in contributing to all the research projects within the ARC: AP-Range and Forage Sciences team. - Provide Feedback
Interns will be expected to provide verbal and written feedback on their work, ensuring effective communication within the team. - Support ARC’s Mission and Values
You will be expected to uphold and promote the ARC’s Mission, Vision, and core values in all aspects of your work.
Job Requirements
To qualify for the ARC Internship program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualifications
A National Diploma, BSc, Honours, or MSc in Agricultural Management, Animal Sciences, Plant Sciences, Wildlife Management, or Biodiversity Conservation is required. Additional postgraduate qualifications will be considered an advantage. - Prior Experience
Experience in rangeland and/or animal-related fieldwork is preferred. This experience can be from previous internships, academic projects, or work-related experience. - Skills and Competencies
- Good interpersonal skills to work within a team environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively and manage time efficiently.
- The ability to make informed decisions quickly and execute them with confidence.
- Experience working with large teams is essential.
- A Code 8 or 10 driver’s license is an added advantage.
- Other Skills
Interns must also be able to demonstrate their ability to maintain confidentiality, deliver excellent customer service, and contribute positively to all ARC initiatives.
