Job Purpose

As an Artisan Aide, your main responsibility will be to assist skilled artisans with the servicing, maintenance, and overhaul of mining equipment. You’ll perform first-level inspections, fault-finding tasks, and technical support to ensure that machines operate smoothly and safely.

This role requires someone who is practical, hardworking, and eager to learn, with the ability to adapt to different technical tasks while maintaining a strong focus on safety.

Minimum Requirements

1. Education
   • Grade 10 / Standard 8 Technical qualification (Essential)
   • AET Level 4 (Essential)
2. Technical Skills Programs (at least one required):
   • AA Fitting
   • AA Diesel Mechanic

3. Experience
   • At least 1 year of technical support experience as a Helper/Operator in a heavy industry environment.
4. Assessments & Certificates
   • Psychometric Assessment (conducted by Exxaro)
   • Certificate of Fitness (conducted by Exxaro)
5. Technical Competence
   • Ability to conduct first-level inspections.
   • Basic fault-finding on mechanical and electrical equipment.
   • Assist in both reactive and scheduled maintenance of equipment.
   • Skills in welding, cutting, and refractory installation.
6. Health & Safety
   • Knowledge and commitment to safety practices.
   • Ability to promote good housekeeping and report unsafe practices.
   • Willingness to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

If successful, your responsibilities as an Artisan Aide will include:

• Assisting artisans in servicing, maintaining, and overhauling machinery.
• Conducting inspections and basic fault-finding on equipment.
• Supporting maintenance activities (both planned and emergency repairs).
• Responding quickly to equipment breakdowns to minimise production delays.
• Performing welding, cutting, and installation work when required.
• Reconditioning spare parts and testing repaired equipment before returning it to operation.
• Ensuring compliance with Safety, Health, Environment, and Community (SHEC) standards.
• Promoting continuous learning, accountability, and teamwork in the workplace.
