Position Overview
The Artisan Mechanic role at Ray Nkonyeni Municipality comes with a competitive salary package ranging from R301,728.96 to R391,643.04 per annum, excluding benefits. The successful candidate will be expected to meet specific technical and performance-related duties, ensuring the municipality’s fleet and plant equipment are maintained in optimal working condition.
Key Responsibilities
In this critical role, the Artisan Mechanic will be responsible for a variety of tasks, primarily revolving around the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, machinery, and vehicles used by the municipality. Some of the key duties include:
- Interaction with Suppliers
- The mechanic will be required to interact with suppliers, requesting quotations for specific parts and materials. They will also be responsible for forwarding the necessary documentation to activate the delivery of these items.
- Inspection and Maintenance
- The mechanic will be tasked with inspecting, maintaining, and repairing various mechanical systems. This includes checking components, parts, and materials upon delivery and ensuring the smooth operation of municipal vehicles and machinery.
- Guidance to Personnel
- As a senior member of the team, the Artisan Mechanic will offer guidance and clear instructions to other personnel. This will include preparing work sites, scheduling tasks, and ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations.
- Engine and Vehicle Testing
- The Artisan Mechanic will drive and test various vehicles and equipment to assess their operating functionality and safety. This includes diagnosing faults and ensuring proper performance standards are met.
- Replacing and Repairing Parts
- The role also includes the removal and replacement of critical parts such as gaskets, seals, belts, and bearings. Maintenance of essential systems such as brakes and carburetors will also be required to ensure that vehicles and machinery meet manufacturing specifications.
- Cleaning and Blockage Removal
- The mechanic will clean and remove blockages or other forms of debris from mechanical systems, ensuring smooth operations in the machinery and vehicles.
- Monitoring and Reporting
- The Artisan Mechanic will be responsible for monitoring the performance of machinery and vehicles, making necessary reports, and addressing corrective measures to improve efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for the Artisan Mechanic position, candidates must meet the following essential qualifications:
- Grade 12 or Equivalent
- A minimum educational requirement of Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification is necessary.
- Trade Test Certificate
- Applicants must possess a recognized Trade Test Certificate, demonstrating their competence as an Artisan Mechanic.
- Experience
- A minimum of two to four years of mechanical experience, specifically in diesel and petrol-powered vehicles, is required. Applicants should have hands-on experience with truck-mounted cranes and heavy plant machinery.
- Code EC Driving License
- A valid Code EC driving license is essential, as the Artisan Mechanic will be required to drive municipal vehicles and equipment as part of their job responsibilities.
- Certification in Equipment Operation
- Candidates must also have a certification in the operation of truck-mounted cranes and heavy plant equipment.
