Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the boilermaker apprenticeship at NWK is to train individuals in all aspects of boilermaking and metal fabrication. The successful candidate will learn through a combination of hands-on training and theoretical instruction. Under the supervision of a qualified artisan, apprentices will gain valuable experience and gradually assume more responsibility as their skills develop.
- Practical Training:
- You will complete various tasks and instructions as assigned.
- Assist in the fitting and fabrication of boiler components.
- Clean and prepare work areas, as well as equipment.
- Care for and maintain tools and machinery.
- Apply the skills and knowledge acquired during the training.
- Complete practical modules, which will be integral to the apprenticeship program.
- Theoretical Training:
- Attend theoretical training sessions on boilermaking, metalwork, and related subjects.
- Complete relevant subjects toward your qualification.
- Apply the theoretical knowledge you gain to real-world tasks.
- Complete theoretical modules and ensure they complement your practical experience.
Responsibilities
As a boilermaker apprentice at NWK Limited, your day-to-day responsibilities will include the following:
- Practical Tasks:
- Assist with boiler component fabrication.
- Follow specific instructions from qualified artisans.
- Work with tools, machines, and materials to complete tasks.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety within the work environment.
- Training and Learning:
- Attend scheduled training sessions.
- Learn about various boilermaking techniques and safety procedures.
- Develop skills in interpreting technical drawings and applying them to real-world tasks.
- Take part in workshops, and hands-on practical sessions to solidify your theoretical knowledge.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and company policies.
- Maintain awareness of safety standards and report any hazards or defects in equipment.
- Follow guidelines to ensure that all work is carried out in compliance with the regulations.
Minimum Requirements
To be eligible for the NWK Limited Boilermaker Apprentice role, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate) or equivalent.
- An N3 qualification or technical subjects completed up to Grade 12 level will be advantageous.
- Strong manual dexterity and the ability to use judgment effectively.
- Good numerical skills and the ability to interpret technical drawings.
- Physical fitness and the ability to work in a physically demanding role.
- Ability to speak, read, and write in Afrikaans and/or English.
- Must demonstrate good problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and report any defective equipment or issues that arise.
