Job Responsibilities – What You’ll Be Doing Each Day

As a Cleaner at one of Johannesburg’s Opportunity Centres, you’ll play a key role in keeping the environment clean, welcoming, and professional. Here’s what your daily tasks may include:

Cleaning and Hygiene

  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors regularly to ensure all areas are spotless and safe
  • Dust and wipe down furniture, surfaces, and windows to maintain a tidy, dust-free workspace
  • Sanitise high-touch areas such as door handles, desks, toilets, and kitchen surfaces to meet health and safety standards

Waste Management

  • Empty dustbins and dispose of waste properly and regularly
  • Ensure all cleaning tools and materials are kept clean and safely stored after use

Meeting Support

  • Prepare and serve refreshments (tea, coffee, water) during staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions
  • Ensure the kitchen area or refreshment station is clean and stocked at all times

General Housekeeping

  • Keep office areas, kitchens, restrooms, and reception areas clean and presentable
  • Assist with light duties such as refilling toilet paper, soap, and paper towels
  • Report any maintenance issues or broken equipment to the supervisor

Team Support

  • Work closely with other staff to ensure the centre stays clean, organised, and professional
  • Be available to assist with basic errands or ad-hoc cleaning duties when needed

No previous experience is needed – just a good work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to help wherever needed.
