The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) has opened a student internship opportunity within its Group Finance Department, offering valuable work-based training to qualifying students who live in the Johannesburg community.

Internship Overview

This internship programme is part of the City’s continued commitment to addressing the growing need for practical experience among students. It aims to help learners gain on-the-job exposure as a prerequisite to obtaining an academic qualification or as a requirement for graduation.

Successful candidates will be placed in the Group Finance Department, Management Support Branch, working under the Registry & Archiving division. The internship runs for a period not exceeding 18 months, and the selected intern will receive a monthly stipend of R3 500.00 (basic salary, no benefits).

  • Location: Thuso House, 61 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein.

Key Responsibilities

Interns will provide administrative support to the department, ensuring effective document and information management in line with relevant legislation and standards.

Primary Functions

  • Provide administrative assistance related to document management systems.
  • Classify, register, scan, and save records into the electronic system.
  • File, retrieve, and dispose of obsolete documents and records.
  • Assist with office and general administration tasks.
  • Support the department in archiving and managing records.

Key Learning Areas

  • Exposure to the City’s document management processes.
  • Hands-on experience in records classification, retrieval, and disposal.
  • Understanding of the National Archiving Act and City regulations.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Matric/Grade 12 (NQF Level 4).
  • Currently studying towards a diploma or certificate.
  • Previous experience or training in a related field is an advantage.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office Applications).
  • Understanding of the public sector will be advantageous.
  • Must be a resident of the City of Johannesburg.

Competencies Required

  • Strong computer skills (MS Word and Excel).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
