Key Responsibilities

1. Communicating the Party’s Message through Digital Media

The Digital Marketing and Social Media Officer will be responsible for communicating the Party’s message through various digital platforms. This includes developing strategies for effective communication on social media, websites, and other digital media outlets. The candidate must ensure that the Party’s message is conveyed in an engaging and clear manner that resonates with the public.

2. Producing Creative Content

A key part of this role is producing high-quality, creative content that reflects the Party’s values and political agenda. The officer will be responsible for creating graphics and videos that align with the Party’s message and political objectives. This involves working with design software like Adobe Design Suite to produce visually compelling content that is shareable and impactful.

3. Driving the Party’s Political Message

In addition to content creation, the officer will play an integral role in driving the Party’s political message both within the Party and to the broader public. This includes monitoring social media and digital media channels to gauge public response and sentiment, amplifying key messages, and ensuring alignment with the Party’s policies.

4. Media and Social Media Monitoring

Monitoring media outlets and social media platforms will be crucial to understanding public perception and responding proactively. The officer will need to track conversations, identify trends, and extract information from media statements that can be used to strengthen and amplify the Party’s narrative.

5. Copywriting and Content Distribution

Effective communication is central to the role. The officer will draft and disseminate written communication, ensuring it aligns with the Party’s messaging and reaches the right audience. This includes writing engaging copy for press releases, social media posts, and other public-facing communications.

Requirements and Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

To qualify for this position, the candidate must possess a tertiary qualification in Communications, Digital Marketing, Graphic Design, or any related field. This will provide a strong foundation for the technical and creative aspects of the role.

Experience:

  • 3 years’ experience in a similar role: The candidate should have proven experience in digital marketing, social media management, and creative content production.
  • 2 years’ experience in media and social media monitoring: Knowledge of how to track, measure, and analyse media sentiment will be critical.
  • 2 years’ experience in creative design (Adobe Design Suite): Expertise in tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro is required to produce high-quality visual content.
  • Experience in drafting written communications: Strong writing skills are essential for drafting press releases, social media posts, and other forms of communication.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence for travel as necessary.

The officer must be an excellent communicator, both in writing and verbally. The role requires the ability to craft persuasive messages, engage with media representatives, and respond to inquiries in a professional manner.

Time Management and Organisation

A keen eye for design and creativity is essential. The officer will be tasked with producing visually appealing content that effectively communicates the Party’s message. This includes not only graphic design but also video conceptualisation and editing.

Adaptability

This role requires the ability to work independently, take initiative, and perform well under pressure. The officer must be able to handle high-stress situations and work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays when necessary.

Knowledge and Commitment

  • Commitment to the Party’s Principles and Programmes: The officer must be fully committed to the principles, policies, and program of action of the Democratic Alliance (DA) and demonstrate this in their work.
  • Willingness to Work Extra Hours: This is a demanding role that may require long and irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays. The successful candidate must be prepared to go the extra mile when required.
