Graduate Programme Overview:
- Position: Environmental Sustainability Graduate
- Location: Midrand, Gauteng
- Contract Type: 12-month contract

Key Responsibilities
As an ESG Graduate, your core duties will include:
- Environmental Sustainability Support
- Assist in the development and implementation of environmental sustainability initiatives.
- Consolidate and analyse environmental sustainability data.
- Research, provide technical advice, and offer recommendations for sustainability projects.
- Support the monitoring and reporting of sustainability performance indicators.
- Fieldwork and Data Collection
- Conduct store and warehouse visits to gather crucial data related to energy consumption, waste management, and the use of natural resources.
- Contribute to climate change mitigation and resilience efforts, guided by the broader ESG strategy.
- Support training and awareness programmes for colleagues, ensuring everyone is aligned with the sustainability goals.
- Incident Investigations
- Participate in incident investigations by gathering evidence, conducting root cause analysis, and preparing reports for management.
- Adherence to Policies
- Ensure compliance with Dis-Chem’s policies, standard operating procedures, and health and safety regulations.
- Support a culture of continuous improvement in environmental performance and governance.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Matric or equivalent Senior Certificate
- Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science, Social Science, or a related field.
- 0-1 years of work experience in a related field.
- Strong knowledge of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transport for occasional travel.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical ideas clearly.
- Strong attention to detail in data analysis, documentation, and reporting.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work under limited supervision in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships across various departments and levels of the organisation.
- A proactive approach to solving problems and identifying solutions, while knowing when to escalate issues to the appropriate level.
Special Conditions of Employment
- Occasional travelling will be required.
- South African citizenship is essential.
- Clear criminal and credit record (MIE check required).
- Driver’s license and access to reliable transport is necessary.
Benefits and Remuneration
