About the FEM Bursary

The FEM Bursary aims to develop future leaders while supporting students financially and academically. FEM is committed to uplifting youth through education and mentorship, ensuring a brighter future for South Africa’s Health Sciences and Engineering sectors.

Who Can Apply for the FEM Bursary?

The FEM Bursary is open to South African students who meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizens only.
  • Studying in the Faculty of Health Sciences or Engineering & the Built Environment.
  • Successfully completed at least the first year of study (first-year and post-graduate students are not eligible).
  • In good financial standing with their university (no outstanding fees).
  • From a disadvantaged background with a combined household income not exceeding R360,000 per annum.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Accepted to study at a recognised South African public university or approved institution.

FEM Bursary Benefits

Required Documents for FEM Bursary Application

Applicants must submit certified copies (not older than 3 months) of the following:

  • South African ID or unabridged birth certificate (if under 16).
  • Parent(s) or legal guardian ID.
  • Proof of income (payslips, pension slips, affidavits, or bank statements).
  • Death or divorce certificates of parent(s), if applicable.
  • Proof of registration for other dependent students.
  • Certified academic record from your university/college.
  • Completed FEM bursary application form (provided if shortlisted).

Additional affidavits may be required depending on household circumstances, such as for unemployed or non-supportive parents/guardians.

How to Apply

  1. Complete the short online questionnaire.
  2. If shortlisted, FEM will issue the official bursary application form.
  3. Attach all required documents.
  4. Submit your application before 15 November 2025.

Note: All documents must be certified at a South African Police Service station or the South African Post Office.
