The Midvaal Local Municipality is offering 12 Fire Fighter Internship positions in Meyerton. Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this internship, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification
  • Firefighter 1 & 2 and Hazmat Awareness and Operations Certificates (or equivalent)
  • First Aid Level 3 or Basic Ambulance Course
  • Code C Driver’s License
  • Medically and physically fit for operational duties
  • Must be able to swim
  • No phobias such as claustrophobia (fear of small spaces) or acrophobia (fear of heights)
  • Knowledge or experience in fire and rescue will be an added advantage
  • Three months of prior internship experience will count in your favour
  • Must be self-disciplined, hardworking, and reliable

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As a Fire Fighter Intern, you will work under the supervision of senior officers and assist in a variety of firefighting and rescue duties, including:

  • Responding to daily operational tasks and instructions from the Station Officer
  • Conducting inspections and maintenance of fire vehicles and equipment
  • Cleaning and checking firefighting tools and vehicles
  • Reporting equipment faults or malfunctions
  • Assisting senior firefighters during emergency calls and incidents
  • Combating grass, wildland, and structural fires
  • Protecting lives, property, and equipment
  • Attending to control room and administrative duties when required
  • Performing rescue operations and other tasks assigned by supervisors
