General Assistant Job Description
As a General Assistant in our Fruit & Veg section, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our store remains welcoming, well-organized, and stocked with the freshest produce. Your primary goal will be to assist customers, maintain a clean and orderly store environment, and support the Fruit & Veg Supervisor in daily operations. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to engage with customers, help them make healthy choices, and keep our store running efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Interaction: Greet customers warmly and offer assistance in finding the fresh produce they need. Understand their requirements and guide them to the appropriate aisles or shelves.
- Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive shopping experience. Assist customers in making informed purchasing decisions and resolving any inquiries or concerns they may have.
- Store Maintenance: Keep the Fruit & Veg section clean, tidy, and safe for customers and staff. Ensure that aisles are free from clutter and potential hazards.
- Stock Management: Stock shelves with fresh produce, replace damaged or spoiled items, and ensure all products are neatly displayed and easily accessible to customers.
- Display Preparation: Prepare and maintain attractive sale displays that highlight seasonal produce and special promotions. Ensure all products are accurately labelled and priced.
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels and promptly reorder items that are running low. Remove expired items and place near-expiry items on special promotions to minimize waste.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe environment for customers and staff.
Minimum Requirements
- Educational Qualification: Matric (Grade 12)
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience working with fresh produce. Previous experience in customer service or retail will be a strong advantage.

- Attention to Detail: Keen eye for spotting damaged or spoiled items and ensuring the store is well-stocked and clean.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to effectively interact with customers and colleagues.
- Interpersonal Skills: Friendly, approachable, and able to build positive relationships with customers and team members.
