Duties and Responsibilities

As an intern in the IT Graduate Development Programme, you will be responsible for various IT support tasks and activities that will help you build your technical skills and gain valuable experience in a corporate environment. Below are the key duties and responsibilities for this role:

1. PC and Hardware Support

  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of PC hardware, including Dell and Lenovo devices.
  • Perform diagnostic tests to identify hardware issues and resolve them effectively.
  • Set up and configure desktops, laptops, and other IT equipment for end-users, ensuring they meet company standards.
  • Monitor and maintain hardware inventory and keep track of device performance to ensure reliability.
  • Provide timely support for any hardware failures, repairs, or upgrades.

2. Software Support

  • Provide technical assistance to employees with software-related issues across various platforms (e.g., Microsoft Office, enterprise applications).
  • Assist with software installations and updates, ensuring compatibility with system requirements.
  • Troubleshoot software errors, bugs, and malfunctions to ensure smooth operation of IT systems.
  • Help end-users with software configuration, ensuring optimal performance and functionality.
  • Assist with software testing and report any issues to the development team.

3. Network Support

  • Support the network infrastructure by assisting with the setup, configuration, and maintenance of network devices like routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Provide support for network connectivity issues, assisting employees with Wi-Fi and LAN troubleshooting.
  • Help in the monitoring and management of network traffic using Cisco and Fortinet systems, ensuring system performance and security.
  • Assist in the installation and configuration of network security features to protect against threats.
  • Assist in performing network upgrades and patch management, ensuring the integrity and security of the company’s IT systems.

4. User Support and Troubleshooting

  • Provide first-line support to employees, assisting with their IT-related issues and troubleshooting problems in a timely manner.
  • Respond to service requests and resolve IT issues reported through the helpdesk or support tickets.
  • Create and maintain a detailed documentation of support issues, resolutions, and system configurations.
  • Assist in providing training to employees on basic IT practices, software usage, and security protocols.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure customer satisfaction through proactive service delivery.

5. Collaboration and Reporting

  • Work closely with other IT team members and cross-department teams to ensure smooth IT operations.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to provide updates on progress and discuss new challenges and solutions.
  • Assist in the reporting and analysis of system performance, identifying any areas that need attention or improvement.
  • Maintain effective communication with team members and supervisors, reporting progress on assigned tasks and project timelines.

6. Learning and Development

  • Participate in internal training programs and mentorship opportunities to further enhance technical skills.
  • Continuously develop knowledge in emerging IT technologies and tools.
  • Engage with industry-standard certifications and best practices to improve IT service delivery.

7. Security and Compliance

  • Assist with the implementation of IT security measures to ensure that the company’s network and devices are protected from cyber threats.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and compliance standards related to IT security and data privacy.
  • Help maintain the security of sensitive company data by implementing and supporting appropriate measures.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Hold a National Diploma in Information Technology or a related field (essential)
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or equivalent will be advantageous
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in the gas and manufacturing industry
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be a team player who values collaboration
  • Not be enrolled in any other learnership or graduate programme

Candidates must be available for the full duration of the programme and be committed to completing the internship.
