Duties and Responsibilities

The role of the Graduate Trainee: Environment involves providing crucial support to the Environmental Manager. You will play an active role in the successful management of the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System to ensure the company complies with environmental legislative requirements.

You will also help drive continuous improvements at McCain Foods’ Delmas plant and other South African locations, ensuring the company remains aligned with sustainability goals while maintaining ISO certification standards. Some of the key responsibilities in this role include:

1. Management of ISO 14001:2015 Compliance

  • Ensure all McCain Foods plants, including Delmas, comply with ISO 14001:2015 policies, procedures, and environmental legislation.
  • Assist with internal audits and ensure there are no major audit findings.
  • Coordinate external environmental audits including Environmental Legal Compliance Audits, Water Use License Audits (WUL), and Global Environmental Compliance Audits.

2. Environmental Awareness Training

  • Conduct training sessions aimed at raising environmental awareness among employees.
  • Ensure all staff members are updated on environmental policies and best practices.

3. Environmental Risk Management

  • Support the Environmental Manager in identifying and assessing potential environmental risks within the company’s operations.
  • Work towards minimizing these risks to ensure the safety and sustainability of the company’s practices.

4. Monitoring and Evaluation of Environmental Performance

  • Help monitor and track environmental performance metrics.
  • Assist in developing reports to evaluate the efficiency of the company’s environmental strategies and identify areas for improvement.

5. MDI Sustainability

  • Contribute to the company’s sustainability initiatives, particularly in relation to utilities and resource management, promoting eco-friendly practices in energy and water usage.

Key Requirements for Applicants

1. Educational Qualifications

  • National Diploma/Degree in Environmental Management is a must. Graduates from related fields are also encouraged to apply.
