Purpose of the Role
The successful candidate will join Lesedi’s engineering department as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team. This is a 100% technical role, meaning your main responsibility will be to design, review, and deliver mechanical systems that meet client specifications, codes, and international standards.
From conceptual design through to commissioning and handover, you’ll be hands-on in projects that involve piping systems, mechanical equipment, thermal hydraulics, and overall system integration.

Key Performance Areas
1. Design Development and Management
- Deliver complete designs on time and in line with client expectations.
- Produce and review industrial designs across all stages: conceptual, basic, and detailed.
- Perform thermal hydraulic system analyses.
- Draft and review P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
- Prepare comprehensive design reports.
- Ensure designs are compliant with codes, standards, and safety regulations.
2. Equipment and System Design
- Select and size mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, tanks, and heat exchangers.
- Conduct 3-D model reviews of plant and piping systems.
- Choose appropriate materials for piping and mechanical systems.
- Compile lists for pipelines, valves, and equipment.
- Draft commissioning specifications and oversee system commissioning after construction.
3. Procurement and Vendor Management
- Generate procurement specifications.
- Evaluate technical proposals from suppliers.
- Assist with tenders and workload estimation.

4. Project Coordination
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines: Electrical, C&I, Civil, Structural.

5. Quality Assurance and Site Activities
- Conduct site inspections and sign-offs.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Maintain strong professional relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Requirements
To qualify for the Mechanical Engineer Vacancy at Lesedi, you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- ECSA registration (Engineer or Candidate Engineer) is highly advantageous.
Experience Required
