Young people in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District have a chance to enter the mining industry through three exciting learnership opportunities at Tshipi Borwa Mine. Applications are open until 8 September 2025 for residents aged between 18 and 35 who meet the entry requirements.
A Pathway into Mining Careers
Tshipi Borwa Mine is offering 12-month enrichment programmes designed to provide participants with practical experience, professional mentoring, and nationally recognised qualifications. These programmes aim to empower local talent while building the next generation of mining professionals. Successful candidates will receive a stipend and transport support during the learnership.
Available learnership opportunities:
1. Mining Technical Support Learnership (18.2 x6)
Learners will gain exposure in geology, sampling, and surveying. Duties include assisting with mapping and core logging, collecting samples, updating survey records, and following strict health and safety procedures. On completion, participants will achieve NQF Level 2 Geology, Sampling and Survey certificates.
2. Laboratory Practice Learnership (18.2 x4)
This programme focuses on developing laboratory skills. Learners will support lab staff, prepare and test samples, and follow lab procedures to maintain accuracy and safety. Graduates will receive an NQF Level 2 Laboratory Practice certificate.
3. Mineral Processing Learnership (18.2 x4)
Participants will be trained in mineral processing and plant operations. Tasks include collecting plant samples, monitoring operations under supervision, and engaging in improvement projects. On completion, learners will obtain an NQF Level 2 Mineral Processing certificate.
Entry Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Hold a Grade 12 certificate with Mathematics and Science
- Possess a valid driver’s licence
- Provide proof of residence and high school attended
- Be able to obtain a valid medical fitness certificate
- Complete a Dover Assessment as part of recruitment
