National Department of Health Internship Programme

The National Department of Health (NDoH) has officially opened applications for its 2025/2026 internship programme, providing a significant opportunity for unemployed South African graduates to gain practical work experience in the public sector. This programme, designed to run for 24 months, offers young people the chance to strengthen their skills and improve their employability in both government and private industries.

This internship programme plays an essential role in government’s broader mission to reduce youth unemployment and equip young professionals with real-world knowledge. The internship is not just a temporary job—it’s a structured developmental experience for future public servants.

What the Programme Offers

The NDoH internship is a workplace-based learning programme that helps bridge the gap between formal education and the world of work. Graduates will be assigned to various departments within the National Department of Health to perform administrative and supply chain management duties. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals and will be mentored throughout the process.

This programme is aimed specifically at graduates who have not previously participated in any internship programme. The department has made it clear that this opportunity is intended to empower new entrants to the job market by giving them their first taste of real employment.

Internship Fields and Requirements

There are two internship categories available under this programme:

1. Administration Internship

  • Reference Number: NDOH 61/2025
  • Minimum Qualification: National Diploma or Degree in one of the following fields:
    • Public Management
    • Public Administration
    • Business Administration
    • Business Management
    • Management Assistant
    • Office Management
    • Office Administration
  • Key Responsibilities:
    Interns will provide support services within the department, including:
    • Office administration tasks
    • Supply chain support services
    • Personnel administration
    • Financial support functions within the department

2. Supply Chain Management Internship

  • Reference Number: NDOH 62/2025
  • Minimum Qualification: National Diploma or Degree in:
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Logistics
    • Public Management
    • Purchasing
    • Transport Management
  • Key Responsibilities:
    Interns in this field will:
    • Assist with asset management
    • Help manage demand and acquisition
    • Support logistical operations
    • Participate in procurement planning and reporting

Who Should Apply?

This internship is open to all unemployed South African graduates who meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must have completed a qualification (Diploma or Degree) in the specified fields
  • Must be between the ages of 18–35
  • Must not have participated in any other government internship before

The Department is looking for individuals who are eager to learn, passionate about public service, and committed to contributing positively to their communities and the country at large.
