About NEMISA and the Ya Rona Digital Programme

The National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (NEMISA) is a public entity committed to promoting and developing media, technology, and digital literacy in South Africa. The Ya Rona Digital Programme is one of its flagship initiatives aimed at providing essential digital literacy training to underserved communities. This initiative focuses on helping individuals who are not yet equipped with the necessary digital skills, enabling them to participate fully in today’s digital world.

Key Responsibilities

As a Digital Ambassador for the Ya Rona Digital Programme, your primary responsibility will be to conduct training on basic digital literacy modules for community members. The goal is to empower individuals with the skills to navigate the digital world confidently. Below are some of the key tasks you will be responsible for:

  1. Training on Digital Literacy: Learn and teach digital literacy skills from the provided training modules.
  2. Conducting Community Training: Work with the local municipality to organize and conduct training sessions for community members.
  3. Learner Management System (LMS): Train learners on the LMS and ensure that they understand how to use it for learning purposes.
  4. Meeting Targets: Achieve weekly and monthly training targets, ensuring that the required number of community members are trained.
  5. Report Submission: Provide weekly reports on the progress of training and submit detailed plans for future community engagements.
  6. Community Engagement: Foster relationships within the community, schools, and local organizations to encourage participation in digital literacy programs.

Candidates will be based at the following TVET Colleges in various regions:

Eastern Cape

  • Ikhala TVET College X2 (Queenstown, Sterkspruit, Lady Frere, Aliwal North, Ezibeleni)
  • King Sabata Dalindyebo TVET College X2 (Mthatha, Libode, Mapuzi/Coffee Bay Area, Mngazi, Ngcobo, Elliotdale)
  • Ingwe TVET College X2 (Mount Frere, Mount Fletcher, Maluti, Siteto (Bizana) & Lusikisiki Ngcungqushe)

KwaZulu-Natal

  • Umgungundlovu TVET College X2 (Pietermaritzburg, Msinga, Imbali, Sobuntu, Edendale, Hlanganani, Mszunduzi, Muden, Northdale)
  • Mthashana TVET College X2 (Vryheid, Kwa-Gqikiza, Nongoma, Ulundi, Nquthu, Kwangwanase)

Western Cape

  • West Coast TVET College X2 (Citrusdal, Malmesbury, Vredenburg, Vredendal)
  • South Cape College X2 (Beaufort West, Oudtshoorn, George, Mossel Bay, Riversdale, Hessequa, and Plettenberg Bay)

Northern Cape

  • Northern Cape Urban TVET College X2 (Kimberley, Galeshewe)
  • Northern Cape Rural TVET College X2 (Upington, Kathu, Kuruman, Namaqualand, De Aar)

Qualifications and Skills Required

To apply for this position, you need to meet the following qualifications and skills:

Education:

  • Minimum: National Certificate in Information Technology and Computer Science NQF level 2-4 (TVET College) or N6.
  • Ideal: Matric, Computer Certificate, Diploma in IT.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum: At least 1-2 years of work experience, preferably in a community or educational setting.
  • Ideal: Bilingual candidates will be preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of computer packages.
  • Analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to write reports and document progress effectively.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Good understanding of digital literacy and a willingness to learn.
