Minimum Requirements 

Basic Requirements

  • A basic qualification accredited by the SAPC that allows you to register as a Pharmacist Intern.
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist Intern (or proof of application for first-time registration).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Pharmacy legislation and national/provincial health policies.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high standards.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy is essential.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, initiative, and problem-solving skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Pharmacist Intern, you will work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Pharmaceutical Care
    • Evaluate prescriptions for accuracy.
    • Dispense medication.
    • Provide essential information to ensure patient compliance and therapeutic success.
  2. Medicine Supply Management
    • Safely manage procurement, storage, and distribution of pharmaceuticals.
    • Ensure the availability of quality medicines while adhering to expenditure controls.
  3. Training and Education
    • Assist with the training and development of pharmacy staff and other healthcare workers.
    • Promote public health awareness and education.
  4. Quality Management
    • Ensure adherence to Good Pharmacy Practices.
    • Maintain compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
  5. Professionalism and Leadership
    • Demonstrate initiative in problem-solving and addressing challenges.
    • Maintain accuracy and professionalism under pressure.
