Professional Nurse Vacancies in KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health

The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Health is inviting applications for 15 Professional Nurse (Specialty) posts in Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing. These positions are available at Greys Hospital, Victoria Mxenge Hospital, Ngwelezana Hospital, and Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital.

Salary and Benefits

  • Grade 1: R476,367 per annum
  • Grade 2: R583,989 per annum
  • Additional Benefits: 13th cheque, optional medical aid, and housing allowance (subject to eligibility).

Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must have:

  • A Grade 12/Matric certificate or equivalent.
  • A Degree or Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • A one-year post-basic qualification in Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing Science accredited by SANC.
  • Relevant professional experience:
    • Grade 1: Minimum of 4 years after registration as a Professional Nurse.
    • Grade 2: Minimum of 14 years, with at least 10 years in Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

Applicants are expected to demonstrate:

  • Comprehensive understanding of nursing legislation and ethical practices.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing policies, procedures, and prescripts.
  • Leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Compassion and professionalism in patient care.
  • Ability to prioritise patient needs and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Communication and report-writing skills.

Key Performance Areas

The successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Implementing programmes aimed at reducing maternal, infant, and under-five mortality.
  • Enhancing women’s health and providing high-quality maternal services.
  • Ensuring effective implementation of initiatives such as CARMA objectives, ESMOE, KINC, Helping Babies Breathe, and IMCI.
  • Coordinating antenatal care programmes, including BANC.
  • Integrating HAST programmes within maternity units.
  • Managing and supervising resources effectively.
  • Supporting training and research initiatives to improve maternal and child health.
  • Promoting discipline, professionalism, and compliance with quality and infection prevention standards.
