Internship Role and Responsibilities

As a Programme Scheduler Intern, you will work closely with the programming team to assist in creating and maintaining accurate and compliant channel schedules. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about rights management, content planning, and the operational workflows that drive television programming. Your key responsibilities will include:

1. Schedule Support & Data Entry

  • Assist with the creation and updating of daily schedules using the Broadcast Management System (BMS).
  • Support the entry of programme titles, timings, episode details, and run orders under supervision.
  • Help verify that programme durations align with available time slots and break templates.

2. Compliance Awareness

  • Learn about the BCCSA broadcasting regulations and internal compliance standards.
  • Assist in checking content metadata to ensure that basic compliance criteria are met.

3. Programming Rights & Contractual Awareness

  • Track programme run counts and license expiry dates as part of the scheduling process.
  • Cross-reference basic rights data provided by the Programme Coordinator team when scheduling content.

4. Schedule Updates & Change Tracking

  • Support the implementation of schedule updates in the BMS as instructed.
  • Maintain internal logs or trackers of scheduling changes for communication with other departments.

5. Break Pattern Assistance

  • Assist in applying commercial break templates to scheduled programmes.
  • Learn to evaluate and adjust break patterns to match programme formats where needed.

6. Error Checking & Reporting

  • Perform basic error-checking on schedule outputs to identify discrepancies.
  • Report potential issues or misalignments to the Programme Scheduler for correction.

7. Internal Communication

  • Draft and distribute programming highlight summaries or basic schedule updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Respond to routine queries from the Traffic, Planning, or Marketing teams with guidance.

Qualifications & Requirements

To be eligible for this internship, you should meet the following criteria:

Educational Requirements:

  • National Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4) – Essential.
  • Diploma or Degree in Broadcasting, Media Studies, or Communications (NQF Level 6) – Essential.

Key Competencies:

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all tasks.
  • Ability to monitor and follow up on delegated assignments effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, including written and verbal English proficiency.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and participate in meetings effectively.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and adapting to new knowledge and skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must be under the age of 35.
  • Candidates who have previously participated in or are currently engaged in a SETA-funded internship are not eligible.
