The Department of Tourism has launched the SANParks Tourism Safety Monitors Programme, part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). Over 250 participants will be appointed to assist with tourism safety at various national parks and attractions across South Africa. The programme runs for seven months, offering practical and theoretical training alongside a daily rate of R200.
Who Is Invited to Apply?
- South African citizens, aged 18–35 (certified ID required)
- Unemployed youth with a Matric or equivalent qualification
- Literate in English; tertiary qualifications in tourism or environmental fields are advantageous
- Resident within 40–100 km of the attraction or national park (proof of residence required—no affidavits)
- Passionate about tourism, willing to work flexible hours
- Own reliable transport to and from site
- Able to take basic fitness test (2.4 km run; 25 push‑ups; 25 sit‑ups)
- One applicant per household
People living with disabilities are encouraged to apply, and any successful applicants will sign a 7‑month contract with SANParks.
What’s on Offer?
- Daily stipend: R 200
- Total pay: Approximately R 8 000 per month
- Training: Theoretical modules and hands-on practical work
- Placement: Sites located close to your residence—some camps may provide accommodation
During the programme, participants assist with visitor safety and engagement at designated national parks and tourism attractions. A police clearance and medical assessment will be required for shortlisted candidates.
