Security Guard Job Overview

• Position: Security Guard

Key Responsibilities

As a Security Guard at Kruger National Park, you will be responsible for various tasks that contribute to the safety and well-being of the park, its staff, and its visitors. Some of the key responsibilities include:

1. Monitoring and Patrolling:
   • Securing the park and its infrastructure from emergency incidents or acts of violence.
   • Conducting random patrols of the park and checking for any suspicious activities.
   • Ensuring that unauthorized persons do not enter restricted areas.
2. Access Control and Vehicle Searches:
   • Controlling access points to ensure only authorized personnel and vehicles are permitted entry.
   • Conducting random searches of vehicles to detect illegal materials or unauthorized items being taken out of the park.
3. Incident Reporting:
   • Reporting any unusual occurrences or suspicious activities to the Shift Supervisor, Security Supervisor, or Protection Services Manager.
   • Keeping detailed logs and records of individuals entering and exiting the park.
4. Physical Security and Crowd Control:
   • Providing security at gates and conducting crowd control during large events or busy times.
   • Ensuring the safe movement of vehicles and individuals within the park’s premises.
5. First Aid and Emergency Response:
   • Providing first aid when necessary and handling emergency situations until further assistance arrives.
   • Being physically fit and prepared to respond effectively in high-stress situations.
6. General Security Functions:
   • Securing buildings or other premises and ensuring materials are not tampered with.
   • Assisting with other duties as assigned by the Security Supervisor or management.

Requirements

To qualify for this exciting opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria:

1. Education and Experience:
   • A minimum of a Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
   • A valid Grade C, D, or E Security Certificate and registration with PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority).
   • At least 2 years of experience as a Security Guard.
   • A valid driver’s license.
2. Knowledge and Skills:
   • Experience in using security equipment and tools.
   • Knowledge of wildlife crime prevention and protection.
   • The ability to detect suspicious actions or individuals.
   • Physical fitness and a willingness to undergo a fitness assessment.
   • Knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures.
   • Good communication skills (both verbal and written).
3. Additional Qualifications (Advantageous):
   • Firearm competency and experience in using firearms.
   • Ability to operate security systems and technology.
