SITA Offers High-Paying IT Jobs with Salaries up to R1.1 Million Annually

The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) of South Africa is currently advertising 27 job vacancies at multiple locations across the nation, offering impressive salaries of up to R1.1 million per year. This move comes as SITA seeks to strengthen its team and enhance the efficiency of IT resources within government departments and public entities.

SITA’s Role in Government IT

SITA is tasked with consolidating and coordinating South Africa’s IT resources to improve the efficiency of governmental functions. This mandate, as outlined in the SITA Act, aims to leverage information technology as a strategic asset for the government, overseeing the IT procurement and delivery processes.

The agency’s primary goal is to enhance service delivery to South African citizens by providing robust information technology, systems, and related services within a secure information environment. This encompasses all government departments and public entities, ensuring that IT services are reliable and secure.

Recent Challenges

The State Information Technology Agency has recently faced scrutiny due to significant system downtimes affecting the Department of Home Affairs (DHA). A major outage in January 2024 was attributed to technical issues on SITA’s mainframe, impacting access to the National Population Register. The DHA has criticized SITA for its frequent downtimes, with former minister Aaron Motsoaledi even suggesting a move to private IT providers, blaming SITA for ongoing issues.

However, SITA’s then-executive caretaker Luvuyo Keyise defended the agency, stating that the DHA opted for cheaper IT services with lower service level agreements, resulting in slower turnaround times for issues. Keyise recommended upgrading to a platinum-tier service to improve redundancy and service levels, a plan that has since stalled.

SITA’s Job Openings

Currently, SITA is looking to fill 27 positions, including some high-paying roles. The highest salary on offer is R1.086 million per year for the positions of Senior DevOps Engineer and Technical Manager, located at SITA’s Centurion branch.
