Key Responsibilities
The Social Media Copywriter will be responsible for:
- Writing with Impact: Producing engaging copy for posts, stories, reels, and TikToks that connect with audiences.
- Owning Creative Execution: Turning briefs into fresh and exciting content ideas that remain on-brand.
- Collaborating with Creatives: Partnering with designers, strategists, and community managers to deliver content that is both visually and verbally strong.
- Spotting & Spinning Trends: Staying ahead of cultural conversations, local memes, and digital behaviours to keep the brand relevant.
- Engaging in Social Listening: Monitoring online conversations to create reactive content and drive authentic community engagement.
- Supporting Campaigns: Developing copy for social-first campaigns, activations, and integrated brand moments.
- Maintaining Accuracy: Ensuring spelling, grammar, tone, and local vernacular are correct across all outputs.
- Being Hands-On: Contributing to reactive posts, content shoots, and real-time publishing when required.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should bring 2–4 years of social media copywriting or content creation experience and demonstrate a strong portfolio of social-first work. The ideal candidate will have:
- A natural feel for engaging online content, whether through humour, timing, or cultural relevance.
- The ability to adapt tone of voice across different platforms and audiences.
- A strong understanding of South African digital culture, memes, and trends.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- A proactive, problem-solving attitude with a readiness to contribute to fast-paced projects.
Bonus Skills: Proficiency in writing in isiXhosa, isiZulu, or other South African languages will add authenticity and cultural depth to the role.
