Social Work Internship Opportunities

The Department of Social Development is offering an exciting Social Work Internship for youth between the ages of 18 to 35. This opportunity is part of the department’s effort to provide practical work experience and exposure in a work environment for unemployed graduates. The internship aims to help youth acquire essential skills and knowledge needed in the social work field.

Internship Overview

  • Location: Head Office, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, Sedibeng, West Rand, and Johannesburg (including institutions)

  • Package: R7,860.50 per month

Key Requirements

To be considered for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualifications: A BA in Social Work.
  • Registration: Must be registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals.
  • Age: Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • Race & Gender: Applicants from all race and gender categories are encouraged to apply.
  • Preference: Preference will be given to youth with disabilities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Providing practical work experience in the field of Social Work.
  • Exposure to a variety of social service environments, including placements in different Gauteng Department of Social Development institutions.
  • Developing practical knowledge and skills required for a career in social work.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should follow these steps:

  1. Complete and sign the Z83 application form.
  2. Submit a CV along with certified copies of the following documents:
    • Qualification certificates.
    • ID document.
    • Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) voting district verification printout. This can be accessed from the IEC website here.

  4. No faxed or emailed applications will be considered.
  5. Please note: incomplete applications will not be accepted.
