Key Duties and Responsibilities
If you land this role, you’ll be expected to take ownership of the sports programmes at the Cape Town Campus. Some of the main responsibilities include:
Student Sports Registration
- Manage the VC Sports Club registration process.
- Ensure all students pay their annual sports club fees.
Sports Club Management
- Oversee the operations of the VC Sports Club.
- Encourage and monitor student participation in all sporting activities.
- Cater for both individual and team sports – whether competitive or social.
Event and Fixture Planning
- Work with Sports Club Administrators to design and manage the sports calendar.
- Coordinate fixtures, practices, and leagues both on and off campus.
Recruitment and Bursaries
- Recruit, select, and manage sports bursary students, especially in hockey and rugby.
- Manage administrators for each sports club.
High-Performance Sports
- Manage the Varsity College Hockey and Rugby Clubs, ensuring smooth operations.
- Lead the high-performance rugby programme, including logistics, medical support, and student engagement during Varsity Cup campaigns.
Social Media and Marketing
- Assist in managing the VC SportsLife Instagram and Twitter accounts.
- Collect and submit content (photos, updates, scores) for social media and the website.
Budget and Equipment Management
- Be accountable for all sports equipment, kits, and apparel.
- Maintain strict stock control procedures.
- Manage and control the campus sports budget.
Reporting
- Provide accurate and timely reports on all sports activities.
Competencies Required

Minimum Qualifications
- Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Sport Management/Development or Marketing (required).
- A Degree in Sport Management/Development or Marketing (advantageous).
Work Experience Needed
- 2–3 years of experience in sport management or a similar field.
- Hands-on experience in coordinating sports programmes.
- Previous involvement in managing a high-performance rugby programme is a plus.
Special Requirements
- A driver’s license and own vehicle are essential, as you’ll need to travel for fixtures and events.
