What the Role Entails

The Gaming Technical and Floor Assistant will support GrandWest’s operation by maintaining gaming and floor equipment to ensure high availability and excellent guest experience. Key responsibilities include:

  • Technical Servicing
The assistant services and cleans components on gaming equipment. This includes displays, Electronic Gaming Machines (EGMs), gaming kiosks, keypads, card readers, note acceptors, EGM bases, cashiering and promotional equipment. The purpose is to prevent equipment failures and maintain consistent performance.

  • Record-Keeping & Safety
All service jobs must be documented via job cards. Workshop and working spaces must be kept tidy, equipment stored securely, and safety procedures adhered to at all times.
  • Guest Interaction & Customer Service
Though the position is technical, there is a customer-facing aspect. The assistant will interact with guests—providing promotional information, greeting visitors warmly, helping with queries, and always operating with respect and professionalism.

Licencing & Physical Requirements

  • Must qualify for a gaming licence, per regulatory requirements.
  • Must be physically strong—able to stand for long periods, move machines, and use tools relevant to repairs and maintenance.

Skills and Competencies

Sun International values both technical proficiency and personal skills. Candidates should be strong in:

  • Technical Areas: knowledge of gaming components, component servicing and repair, system auditing and investigations. A sound understanding of gaming technical standards and computer skills is essential.

    • Emotional resilience—able to handle the pressures and demands of a busy gaming floor.
    • Customer focus—listening to guests, answering questions, presenting Sun International in a friendly and professional manner.

Why This Role Matters

GrandWest Casino is more than just entertainment; it’s a destination. The smooth operation of gaming equipment, the appearance and reliability of the floor setting, and interactions between staff and guests all shape the guest’s experience.

A Gaming Technical and Floor Assistant plays a critical behind‑the‑scenes role—ensuring that when a guest arrives, everything works, looks good, and feels welcoming. Poorly maintained equipment or dirty displays can undermine guest trust, while well‑maintained gaming floor and friendly service foster loyalty and enjoyment.

What It’s Like to Work at GrandWest

  • Move frequently across work areas—between machine floors, workshops, promotional zones.
  • Be engaged both in technical tasks and customer interaction.
  • Work under standards governed by the Gaming Board and by internal policies of Sun International.
  • Be part of an organisation that values equity—preference given to candidates from designated groups in line with the Employment Equity Act, No. 55 of 1998.

How to Apply

  • Their educational qualifications (Grade 12/N3, including Mathematic, Natural Science or Electronics/Electrical).
  • Any prior experience in technical/electrical maintenance or relevant work settings.
  • Strong examples of customer service or problem‑solving under pressure.
