Key Responsibilities
As a Video Journalist Intern, your main duties will include:
- Storytelling and Visual Delivery:
- You will be responsible for delivering visuals that meet SABC News’ editorial standards and are of the highest audiovisual quality.
- You will brainstorm and collaborate with reporting journalists to develop compelling story angles.
- You will advise reporting journalists and video editors on the most effective and impactful visuals for the story.
- Editing and Production:
- You will assist in editing news packages in line with SABC editorial guidelines, the BCCSA, and Press Codes.
- You will also deliver content to digital platforms, ensuring it aligns with the newsroom’s requirements.
- Broadcasting and Live Production Support:
- Assist in setting up and coordinating facilities for live broadcasts when required.
- You will ensure the efficient delivery of visual content during live news events.
- Equipment Management and Maintenance:
- You will be responsible for the care of assigned equipment, including cameras and other gear used in news reporting.
- You are expected to immediately report any damage or issues with equipment to the team leader.
- Compliance and Standards:
- As an intern, it will be essential for you to adhere to South Africa’s broadcasting regulations, including the Constitution, ICASA regulations, and SABC editorial policies.
- You will also need to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and maintain high standards of equipment management to minimize the risk of damage or loss.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Constant communication with internal stakeholders will be necessary to ensure optimal delivery of news objectives.
- You will collaborate with the reporting team to ensure all audiovisual content is aligned with the needs of the newsroom.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this internship, candidates must meet the following qualifications and skills:
- Educational Qualification: A National Diploma (NQF6) in Video Technology, Media Studies, or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience: Previous experience in video technology, media studies, or journalism is advantageous.
- Technical Skills: Strong computer literacy and the ability to work with video editing software.
- Physical Fitness: The role requires physical fitness to manage and carry equipment on the job.
