This position requires a qualified Social Worker who will be responsible for rendering social work services through various programs such as case work, group work, and community work. The position involves providing care, support, protection, and development to vulnerable individuals and communities.

Key Responsibilities

The Social Worker will be expected to provide a range of services, including:

  1. Care and Support: Providing assistance and support to individuals, families, and communities who are facing social challenges, ensuring their well-being is promoted and protected.
  2. Supervision and Mentorship: Supervising and providing guidance to Social Auxiliary Workers and other professionals in the field. This includes mentoring less experienced Social Workers to enhance their capabilities.
  3. Program Implementation: Assisting in implementing social programs focused on social change, problem-solving, and empowerment. The Social Worker will play a role in addressing social instability and mitigating its effects on communities.
  4. Administrative Duties: Keeping up-to-date records and reports on cases handled, ensuring that all administrative requirements are met in a timely and professional manner.
  5. Continuous Professional Development: Engaging in continuous learning and professional development to stay current with new developments in social work practices, legislation, and social welfare.

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualification: A Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree that allows professional registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
  • Registration: Must be registered as a Social Worker with SACSSP.
  • Experience:
    • Grade 1: No prior experience required.
    • Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience in social work post-registration.
    • Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years appropriate experience in social work post-registration.
    • Grade 4: A minimum of 30 years appropriate experience in social work post-registration.
  • Other Requirements: A Code B (or higher) driving licence is recommended.

Competencies Required

Candidates must possess the following knowledge and skills:

  • Social Work Theory and Practice: In-depth understanding of social work theories and interventions, and the ability to apply these in diverse and challenging situations.
  • Knowledge of Relevant Legislation: Familiarity with social work-related policies, norms, and standards, and the ability to apply these within a legal and ethical framework.
  • Skills in Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills and the ability to intervene effectively to resolve conflicts and challenges within families, communities, and individuals.
  • Communication Skills: Both written and verbal communication skills are essential for reporting, advocacy, and liaising with various stakeholders.
  • Client-Oriented Approach: Ability to work effectively with vulnerable clients, advocating for their needs and empowering them to overcome their challenges.

Remuneration

The position offers competitive remuneration, with cost-to-employer (CTE) packages that include a range of benefits such as medical assistance, housing, pension contributions, and more. The salary scales are as follows:

  • Grade 1: R325,200 – R382,374 per annum
  • Grade 2: R397,119 – R459,996 per annum
  • Grade 3: R477,564 – R561,378 per annum
  • Grade 4: R585,441 – R725,754 per annum

The offered salary is inclusive of all benefits and service-related costs as prescribed by the relevant occupation-specific dispensations (OSD).
