Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the ICT Support role is to assist in the resolution of incidents involving applications and related end-user equipment used within the organization. This involves troubleshooting and solving problems related to systems and equipment that are essential for students, staff, and faculty. The support will be offered not only to end-users but also to internal teams like computer operations and service desks.

The position includes a variety of tasks, such as:

1. Desktop Support

  • Answering, evaluating, and prioritizing logged requests for assistance from users.
  • Logging and tracking calls through the incident and problem management database.
  • Identifying, isolating, and resolving routine user issues. Complex problems are escalated to the senior ICT support team.
  • Ensuring that service desk calls are closed within the defined SLA parameters.

2. Software and Hardware Installations and Support

  • Installing and configuring desktop and laptop computers with the necessary software.
  • Setting up hardware and peripheral components (e.g., monitors, printers, disk drives).
  • Conducting periodic checks and testing of ICT equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
  • Carrying out device setups and managing the acceptance sign-off for devices used by staff and students.

3. Information Technology Administrative Functions

  • Liaising with service providers to maintain ICT equipment, including repairs and upgrades.
  • Maintaining the ICT asset register and completing the required financial documentation (disposals, etc.).
  • Ensuring that all areas like the ICT storeroom, server room, and office space are tidy and safe.
  • Organizing and conducting training and orientation for staff and students on ICT systems.

4. Regular Audits and Checks

  • Carrying out periodic reviews and spot checks on ICT assets.
  • Maintaining an updated asset register, ensuring that it is aligned with financial records.
  • Performing audits and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations in ICT facilities.

Educational Qualifications and Experience Required

To qualify for the ICT Support position, candidates need to meet the following educational and experience criteria:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Higher Certificate in ICT or an equivalent qualification.
  • Occupational Certificate Level 5 (NQF Level 5) in ICT.
  • A+ / N+ certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience: At least 6 months of ICT internship or practical exposure.

Advantageous:

  • Advanced Certificate, Diploma, or Occupational Certificate Level 6 (NQF Level 6) in certifications like CCNA1, MCSE, or MCTIP.
