Key Responsibilities
As a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant at Dis-Chem Pharmacies, you will perform various important duties that will directly affect the quality of care given to patients. These responsibilities include:
- Assisting with Pharmaceutical Care:
You will be involved in the provision of pharmaceutical care by supporting the pharmacist in assessing and meeting the patients’ medication-related needs. This involves dispensing medicines in accordance with the prescriptions and ensuring that all medication is dispensed accurately, following the legal requirements set by the SAPC. - Assisting with Medication Handling:
You will be required to assist in the compounding, preparation, and manufacturing of non-sterile medicine, as well as the re-packaging of medications. You’ll ensure that all medications are accurately labeled and packed. - Customer Interaction:
A significant part of your role involves interacting with customers to advise on the correct use of their medications, including how to manage chronic diseases such as HIV, AIDS, and oncology treatments. You will also assist in processing medical aid claims and ensure that prescriptions are authorized correctly. - Managing Stock:
You’ll assist in the control and distribution of stock, from Schedule 1 to Schedule 6 medicines, and ensure that stock is appropriately ordered and distributed according to Dis-Chem’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You’ll also monitor stock levels, report on low stock, and support the bi-annual stocktakes. - Administrative Duties:
You will be responsible for capturing script details accurately, verifying patients’ details in the system, and ensuring the medication’s selection, packing, and labeling align with the doctor’s prescriptions. - Health Promotion:
Apart from your direct pharmaceutical duties, you’ll also assist in promoting health by providing relevant information on drugs, supplements, and family planning.
