Key Responsibilities for the Mechanic Role
As a Mechanic at Truworths, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the company’s sewing machines and mechanical equipment. The job requires someone who is proactive, knowledgeable, and able to work independently. Below are some of the key responsibilities:
1. Sewing Machine Maintenance
- Have technical knowledge of the various sewing machines used in the fashion industry.
- Maintain and service sewing machines to ensure they function at optimum capacity.
2. Health & Safety Compliance
- Adhere to health and safety standards and ensure that all equipment is compliant with safety regulations.
- Respond quickly to breakdowns and assist with troubleshooting and repairs.
3. Asset Management
- Compile and maintain an asset register of electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Report any breakdowns and make recommendations for improvements to ensure the ongoing efficiency of machinery.
4. Planned Maintenance
- Advise on and drive the planning and implementation of planned maintenance schedules.
- Ensure that all mechanical and electrical systems are well-maintained to prevent downtime.
5. External Service Provider Relationships
- Build and maintain positive relationships with external service providers.
- Collaborate with service providers to ensure equipment is serviced as needed.
6. Independent Work
- Ability to work independently and efficiently, ensuring that machinery is always in top condition.
Qualifications and Experience Required
Truworths is seeking a Mechanic with at least 5 years’ experience in a clothing design centre environment. Candidates should have the following qualifications and experience:
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent.
- At least 5 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance, particularly in the fashion or garment industry.
- A good understanding of sewing machines and related mechanical systems.
