About the Bachelor of Commerce Degree

The Bachelor of Commerce (General) programme at UMP is a versatile and well-rounded qualification designed to prepare students for success in the modern business world.

Launched in 2018, this qualification is:

  • A 360 SAQA credit degree
  • Aligned with HEQSF Level 7
  • Completed over a minimum of three years

Unlike specialised degrees, the BCom (General) allows students to explore multiple areas of commerce before choosing a focus. This flexibility makes it ideal for students who want broad business knowledge rather than being limited to a single field.

Areas of Study Include:

Students can choose majors from six key disciplines:

  • Accounting
  • Business Management
  • Commercial Law
  • Economics
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Industrial Psychology

This structure allows you to tailor your studies to your interests and career goals. For example, you could combine Economics and Business Management or focus on Accounting and Commercial Law.


Minimum Admission Requirements

To qualify for late admission into the Bachelor of Commerce programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • National Senior Certificate
  • Admission Points Score (APS) of 30
  • Mathematics: Level 4 (50–59%)
  • English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4 (50–59%)

Important: Mathematical Literacy is not accepted for this programme.
