The Boilermaking Learnership at Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (Implats) is now open for 2026 applications. This 42-month structured training programme in Springs, Gauteng, offers aspiring artisans the opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience while working toward a recognised trade qualification.

If you have completed your N2 or NCV Level 4 in Boilermaking and want to qualify as an artisan, this could be your chance to build a stable and rewarding engineering career.

About the Boilermaking Learnership

The Impala Platinum Boilermaking Learnership is designed to equip learners with both theoretical knowledge and practical workplace exposure in a real mining and refinery environment.

Programme Details

  • Location: Springs, Gauteng
  • Duration: 42 months
  • Start Date: August 2026
  • Department: Human Resources – Training and Development
  • Closing Date: 11 March 2026

The programme leads to a Boilermaker Trade Test Certificate conducted under the auspices of the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA).


What You Will Learn

During this Boilermaking Learnership, you will receive structured on-the-job training and mentorship. Training includes:

Technical Skills Development

  • Structural steel fabrication and installation
  • Maintenance and repair of refinery and plant equipment
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Working with heavy industrial materials and tools

Workplace Experience

  • Exposure to production-driven mining and refining operations
  • Safety procedures and compliance standards
  • Teamwork and problem-solving in industrial environments

By the end of the 42 months, you will be fully prepared to attempt your trade test and qualify as a Boilermaker Artisan.

Minimum Requirements

To apply for this Boilermaking Learnership, you must have:

  • A completed N2 or NCV Level 4 Certificate in Boilermaking
  • N2 subjects that include:
    • Mathematics
    • Engineering Science
    • Structural Steel Drawing
    • Plater Trade Theory
  • A basic understanding of boilermaking trade principles
  • Medical fitness to work at both BMR and PMR plants

Only candidates who meet the academic requirements will be considered.
